COVID pandemic created havoc in the country with many still fighting the deadly virus. Along with economic meltdown, the country crumpled under the increasing COVID cases and the failing health infrastructure. But there is a ray of hope now. Two vaccines for coronavirus, Oxford Institute’s Covishield, which is being developed Serum Institute, and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, have been granted emergency approval from Drug Controller General of India.
COVID vaccine approval came days after a government-appointed experts’ panel gave clearance to the vaccines. Drug Controller General of India VG Somani said, “We’ll never approve anything if there is slightest of safety concern. The vaccines are 110 per cent safe. Some side effects like mild fever, pain and allergy are common for every vaccine.”
