The Canon SX510 HS has been in the market for quite some time now, and the company is likely to be in the process of introducing more models as a result of an increase in competition from Sony, Panasonic and Samsung.
The camera has a 42x optical zoom, against the current market standards of 62x optical zoom. But its 24mm wide angle lens gives users the capability to reach 1008mm at the telephoto end of the optic.
The camera is also equipped with ZoomPlus technology, which enables the zoom range up to 84x, and works by rebuilding the pixel count up to the same resolution as those taken using the optical zoom.
The SX510HS is making use of a 16 million pixel 1/2.3 inch CCD sensor, which is quite unusual as majority of manufacturers in the market are currently using CMOS sensors.

The final verdict to this camera is that its 42x optical zoom is not the latest range but quite good. It is also not equipped with other latest features such as Wi-Fi or a touch screen. However, its price is pretty reasonable as compared to its competitors presently available in the market and this feature is likely to make its unique in the present day competition.
