Bye-Bye BlackBerry Z10: Pentagon Employees Can Choose Apple iPhone Or Android Smartphones Instead

BlackBerry has been steadily losing ground to iPhones and Android based smartphones, and looks like its recently launched BlackBerry 10 OS hasn’t helped stem the tide much. Many companies have chosen to quit BlackBerry and let their employees use iPhones or Android phones as corporate smartphones. But BlackBerry still had a significant share of enterprise customers in the government, which unfortunately looks like is also getting smaller by the day.

The latest to ditch BlackBerry is Pentagon, which announced its decision to let users pick iPhones or Android-based phones instead of the BlackBerry if they wish to starting from February 2014. However, employees can continue to use BlackBerry too if they like. 470,000 of the 600,000 smartphones in use at the Pentagon are from BlackBerry, but this new ruling will definitely pull away a chunk of this share.

While Pentagon has clearly stated that it is not in favor of implementing a BYOD (bring your own device) program, this freedom should help partially curtail expenses while giving some level of freedom to the employees to use their devices in their personal lives too.
