Popular search engine Blekko recently launched ROCKZi, a new and pleasant way of getting hold of content that you can relate to in first attempt. Once you log on to ROCKZi, all you need to do is select the category you wish to read, and then within seconds related articles will be appear on your screen in a grid view reminiscent of Flipboard on the iPad.

An interesting feature that Blekko has added to its newly launched site is of giving viewers an option of voting and leaving a comment on the article. Furthermore, the user itself can submit new articles and share them on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. Above all, users will also get points for their each and every action.

The concept of ROCKZi first came to the mind of a Blekko engineer during an internal hackathon, which was later developed into a full-scale product.

“We didn’t want to present fresh content in a traditional news search kind of way by launching news.blekko.com and putting a search box there,” co-founder and VP of marketing Mike Markson says. “Blekko is all about curation — people want to curate, you just have to give them the right set of tools. The other goal with ROCKZi is to take the curation aspect out of the hands of just the power-users and hand it to the everyday users,” he continues.

It goes without saying that ever since Blekko has been launched its users have been making an effort of finding quality content and saving it in vertical categories called slashtags. The same slashtags have also been used in the ROCKZi. “Rather than making slashtags a searchable database, we wanted to turn it inside out and provide it as a feed,” Markson says.

However, the use of slashtags is different in ROCKZi as compared to Blekko as it follows a less intimidating path wherein makes use of selecting the category you are interested in as a first step. In addition, ROCKZi also makes use of Facebook connect to show you the content your friends have submitted or liked and their area of expertise.

If you are interested in seeing how ROCKZi works then you can now do so as website has been made live. However, if you wish access ROCKZi on your handset, then you will have to wait for sometime as mobile apps are on its way.
