Women Fighter Pilots Inspire Indian Women

Women in India are coming out of the shell and booming like never before. In a country like India where women had fewer roles in society, they are reaching for the stars today–literally. Women and shedding old clichés of working behind closed doors and they are taking steps to conquer male bastions. With so much in their armour, they are inspiring a number of Indian girls too.

Bhawna Kanth, Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh are creating history as India’s first women fighter pilots as they will be inducted into the IAF fighter stream in June 2016. They are currently under training and who will make the final cut depends on them clearing the advanced stage training. This was announced by Chief of the Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Arup Raha.

While there are many women pilots serving the IAF as transport and helicopter pilots, this comes as a breakthrough for women who have longed to contribute their skills under extreme outside aggression like their counterparts in US, UAE, Russia and Pakistan.

In an interview to NDTV, Raha said that they will be treated as fighter pilots rather than women pilots and there will no soft postings. However,it remains to be seen if women fighter pilots are in fact given mission as daunting and forbidding as are assigned to their male compatriots by the IAF in real wars.

Women in the armed forces have still a long way to prove their mettle before they gain respect in every streams without prejudice to their gender. But for now these fighter pilots are creating a wave among young female generations.

Chandigarh-based Akshita Bali, who has always admired her father’s profession as a fighter pilot (now retired from the armed forces), she says listening to his experiences to the world brings her immense pleasure and she aspires to be just like her dad in the future.

Similarly, it is of a great inspiration to other women and young girls. We hope it will help women come out of their cocoon and fulfill their dreams of serving the nation with distinction.

Know What Your Neighbour Earns With WageSpot Salary App

WageSpot salary appA new application for smartphones called WageSpot has been released on Tuesday in USA and has already scored a hit thanks to what it reveals—the amount of money people make as salary!

The application allows users to report their annual incomes and check out what others in the same niche are taking back home. All this with anonymity! WageSpot also allows people to look up the earnings as per job type, experience, gender, location and miscellaneous criteria.

The app reminds us of the way Zillow maps lists property values across neighborhoods. WageSpot also shows maps that reveal what people earn and where they are based. Raphael Morozov, co-founder of WageSpot says, “It seems that we are really afraid to talk about compensation no matter how much we make and how much we should be earning.”  He believes that if the scoop on salary is out in the world, gathering the same could actually cause a stir around.

Summing Up

While websites such as Glassdoor have already made a mark in this niche, gathering data on who earns how much and where remains a fave preoccupation. “Salary data has remained hidden behind reporting complexity and cultural stigma…” founders of WageSpot have said.Read the rest

Gaming geeks familiar with Skylanders will find comfort with the “toys to life” format for Lego Dimensions. In fact, this time the game places importance on merging existing licensed worlds with characters from The Simpsons, Batman and The Wizard of Oz. However, the point at which Dimensions scores a six is when it plays to Lego’s strengths. Lego sets can also be rebuilt to showcase alterations and progress in the game. More sets can also add classy new models and interactive gaming content. While these sound like a piece of cake, do remember that Lego keeps getting newer models, which can leave you with an unquenchable thirst for more.

Warm up to FIFA 2016

Taking off from the Pro Evolution Soccer’s warm-up we saw last week, FIFA 16 is finally here and we are sure this version is the toughest one on the block till date.  We spotted incremental improvements and interfacial changes such as the addition of superficial endures and the warm up to the match reminds us of Sky Sports.

There is also extra player physicality. This allows defenders more options. In fact, even cerebral passing is encouraged. The next big improvement is the presence of draft mode for the Ultimate Team. Instead of spending a lot of time making a squad, you can start off with a drafted list.… Read the rest

Edward Snowden Joins Twitter; 1 Million Followers In 24 Hours

Edward SnowdenTwitter has found a way with Edward Snowden—the man of the moment who doubles as a fugitive and is best known as an erstwhile National Security Agency contractor. He opened an account on the micro blogging site on Tuesday from Russia, where he is currently on exile. Within 24 hours, he has reached 1 million followers.

Best known for leaking massive surveillance secrets of the US government, Snowden is clearly not just a speck in the digital world anymore. And his handle seems to be as uptight as he is @snowden. His Twitter bio says: I used to work for the government. Now I work for the public.

The whopping followers’ saga

Right after he opened an account, Snowden attracted 171,000 followers—all within one hour and by the time the day was half way through, this followers’ list grew to 740,000. That speaks a lot about the fan-dom this man enjoys.

Ironically, Snowden is following a single account—the National Security Agency. Snowden even went so far as to tweet, “Meanwhile, a thousand people at Fort Meade just opened Twitter”. Fort Meade is the NSA’s Army base in Maryland.

Snowden’s first tweet read, “Can you hear me now?” A rip off from an advert of a cell phone provider seen on television, Snowden’s first tweet alone saw 25,000 retweets within one hour.

Some individuals who seem to support Snowden believe he is a classic whistleblower who lifted the lid off the excesses indulged in by the American government. However, the latter went on to file charges for espionage against Snowden. The government believes that he leaked intelligence information. Following all this, Snowden left USA in May 2013 and made Russia his home post grant of asylum there in the later part of 2013.

First reactions from Tweeple

The first reactions over social media to the Twitter account opening from Snowden have been positive. According to Thomson Reuters’s proprietary algorithm that scoured Twitter mentions or tweets about @snowden, it was revealed that there were 1,109 positive tweets against just 156 negative ones within the first hour of Snowden’s opener tweet.

Echoing popular sentiment, people around the world including IT analysts Naveen Maudgal from Ericsson, Noida and Anuj Jain from Oracle, Hyderabad, in India have labeled “Snowden as a geek and interesting man, instead of a traitor of sorts.”

During his initial hours on Twitter, Snowden also tweeted and retweeted exchanges with Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist and popular radio talk-show. Incidentally, Tyson had earlier suggested that Snowden must get on to Twitter while interviewing the latter on his show earlier in September.

Wrapping Up

In fact, now that the tweeting saga from @snowden has begun, we got to know that this man is interested in stuff such as the Martian water discovery as well as his work for the Freedom of the Press Foundation. He did mention his fetish for cat pictures amid so much, though.… Read the rest

Say No To Solo

More scoop from Rainbow Six News has revealed that this game will no longer have a solo player mode. Art director Scott Michell has said that the game will not have a story mode in the real sense of the term. He has further clarified that players will receive training where they can experience various operators with their devices.

You may choose to play against Al, the enemy in co-op mode across the maps or even personalize matches. The Star, Renown and similarly laced point system will still be relevant.

Bad News Gamers: No Single Player Mode on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Bad news for those planning to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 all by themselves. It doesn’t come with a single player mode. However, the zombie and multiplayer modes will be supported on these last gen consoles.

A  post on the Call Of Duty website notes, “The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.”

No Single Player Mode For Call of Duty

Criticism pours in

This announcement comes too late in the day because pre-orders have already begun as people from all over the globe want to own the latest Call of Duty.

Critics have been panning the makers for such a delayed announcement. Some have even called their behavior indifferent to the consumers. They believe that simply putting up old Black Ops for download is lax and too light headed to please avid gamers.

There is a consolation

In order to make up for this lag, the game will come $10 cheaper than its original price, Activison confirmed. In addition, it will put up the maiden series Call of Duty: Black Ops for digital download on last generation consoles.

The PS3 and the Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will now be available for about $49.99. For some regions, this includes cost of the additional download as well.

Internet.org Is Now FreeBasics But Why?

net neutralityFacebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now considering a change in name for the controversial internet.org platform. Now being called Free Basics, it is meant to provide web access to more people by offering it free of cost. Free Basics will also allow these new users to enjoy complimentary services from around 250 partners.

Supported by leading mobile phone manufacturing companies like Nokia and Samsung, this free internet service from Facebook aims to connect around 4.4 billion people who are yet to be introduced to the online world.

Who will benefit?

Eventually, Free Basics aims to connect areas that don’t have internet connectivity. This will be done using drones and laser technology. But currently, the platform aims to bring low network areas such as 2G networks under the Free Basics bandwagon.

People living in India and other developing nations are going to benefit from the service. Surveys indicate that people living in remote areas will receive better guidance for pregnancy care, parenting, education and even farming using free internet services.

Read more about the debate: The Net Neutrality Debate: Larger Than You Thought

What is the catch?

The concept of Free Basics is in direct contrast with the concept of net neutrality that smaller players and the advocates of internet are against. Subscribing to Free Basics implies only players who pay the provider will be accessible to users.

Ever since the internet has penetrated Indian households, it has given opportunity to entrepreneurs to expand and innovate. When they will have to start paying to be seen and heard on the internet, the market will only be available for the giants in every vertical.

For the end user, this means they will not have access to the new players. They would have restricted access to news, information and e-commerce.

When the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi met Mark Zuckerberg, this issue has been brought to light once again. … Read the rest

55,669 Villages To Get Mobile Connectivity By 2018

The Indian government has been making a constant endeavor to use technology to advance the small towns and villages in India. Towards this, the Communications Ministry has announced that 55,669 villages will be brought under mobile connectivity by 2018.

This development is planned under the Digital India program and will occur in a phased manner so that it can receive aid from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).

While the rest of the country is enjoying internet at 3G and 4G speeds, lack of mobile connectivity is affecting development in remote areas. Therefore, if the government’s plan works out successfully, people in remote areas would be able to use technology to their benefit.

Digital India Movement to cover all panchayats

Offering mobile connectivity to remote areas is a major concern for the government. But government officials have said that an important factor for the movement is to offer high speed internet to remote areas.

This is not all. The movement also aims at offering government services on the web and promoting electronic manufacturing. This move is expected to generate more jobs to reduce youth unemployment.

The government has also covered 23,604 villages with optic fiber cables under the National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) project. Though the project has crossed its deadline, it is still an important achievement as 2.5 lakh panchayats are expected to come under this network by the end of 2016.
