Moto 360 Smartwatch Sports A Powerful Battery

moto 360 powerful batteryThe Moto 360 smartwatch by Motorola is the most awaited device of 2014, and according to a latest leak by blogger Luca Viscardi the device would be equipped by a powerful battery that will last for about two and a half days on a single charge. Although it is not a very impressive feature, it will surely give Motorola an edge over its competitors.

This yet to be launched smartwatch will give us something different from that of the square-shaped displays of the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live, which operates on the same software. The computerized boxy designs of the Pebble Steel and Samsung Gear 2 are no longer in fashion.

The Moto 360 has not been released yet and there is not much information regarding the price of the device as there is no official statement yet by the company. It was earlier rumoured that the device will be launched in July but the rumored date has come and gone without a launch.

The ambitious Moto 360 is being termed by many as the Google’s best Android Wear device, especially when combined with customizable leather and metal straps.

Meanwhile, the computerized Moto 360 watch screen is likely to be equipped with a custom-made OLED display, which consumes as much as 40% less power when displaying black images vs LCDs as they can turn off individual pixels.

It is lot more important these days to have a device which has a good battery back up as no one wants to charge a watch before the day is out.

Google Slammed by Surveyor General of India For Revealing Confidential Data

google survey of indiaIn a recent news story, CBI is reportedly conducting a probe against the Internet search giant Google. The latter has allegedly babbled out some confidential information on the web as claimed by Surveyor General of India.

Despite repeated warnings and notices, Google continued to pollute the internet with classified locations on its map app, said Swarna Subba Rao, Surveyor General of India.

In a statement to PTI, Dr. Rao says, “During their (Google’s) Mapathon 2013 exercise, they collected lot of classified data and we had approached them to refrain from doing so when we came to know about it.”

The case has been registered by the Survey of India (SoI), which is the official mapping agency of India.

Earlier in Feb-March 2013, the Internet giant, however, had abstained from seeking the SoI’s approval before holding a mapping competition, where people were told to map their locality, along with areas such as hospitals and restaurants in the vicinity.

The case accuses Google of mapping several areas, which are not even comprised in the Indian maps.

Until now, Google-India’s legal advisor Geetanjali Duggal and few others have been investigated by the CBI. On being asked, Google, however, assures its full cooperation to the CBI.

Stressing on the breach to the home ministry, the SoI claimed to be the sole ministry to undertake ‘Restricted’ category surveying and mapping, with nobody licensed to do it- be it government or private firms.

Moreover, according to the National Map Policy 2005, “the responsibility for producing, maintaining and disseminating the topographic map database of the whole country, which is the foundation of all spatial data, vests with the Survey of India”.… Read the rest

The alliance between Barnes & Noble and Google will benefit buyers in Manhattan, West Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. Starting on Thursday, local Barnes & Noble stores will offer same-day online shopping delivery using Google Shopping Express.

Using the one-year old Google Shopping, users shop online from stores including Costco, Walgreens, Staples and Target to get deliveries within hours.

Amazon already offers same-day delivery at $5.99 for Prime program members and $9.98 for others. The firm has now outspread its same-day delivery services to ten more cities, up from four. Other retailers such as Walmart and eBay also offer same-day deliveries to buyers.

Let’s see how Google Express Service works. Google uses various courier services, which get hold of products from local stores as per orders. The courier guys sort and bundle the orders to deliver them within three- to four-hours.

Google offers free delivery to its subscribers. For non-members, it costs $4.99 per delivery, per store. Offering free membership for the first six months, the subscription fee of the service has not been announced by Google as yet.

The internet search giant plans to expand its delivery service to Brooklyn and Queens as well.… Read the rest

HTC Takes Out WP 8.1 GDR1 Update For HTC 8X; No Release for 8S

to Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1. Sadly, for HRC 8S users, the update stays unavailable as the device lacks update’s hardware requirements. Low internal memory of the 8S could also be the reason for not receiving the update.

However, for 8X users, the wait is going to be a bit longer as HTC, first needs to evaluate the performance of the device running the update before rolling it out to users.

As for now, HTC has not mentioned any specific time period to take out the update. While users of 8X smartphones get ready to update their device, 8S users will just have to wait to see what all HTC might have to offer.

A 4K Resolution Revelation: Not All UHD TVs are Made Alike

A tip-off from Fox News has led to the discovery that not all Ultra High Definition Televisions (UHD TVs) can run Netflix 4K videos.

UHD TVs, UltraHD TVs, Netflix 4K videos, 4K resolution, HEVC, Panasonic UHD TVs
UHD TVs, UltraHD TVs, Netflix 4K videos, 4K resolution, HEVC, Panasonic UHD TVs

These UltraHD TVs come with built-in HEVC decoders and therefore are expected to play all videos with 4K resolution. High Efficiency Video Coding or HEVC, formerly called H.265, is a video compression standard, used to send 4K videos that occupy too much of space, via existing broadband networks with low speed of 15 to 16 Mbps.

The revelation included UHD TV sets made by some of the biggest television makers including LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony, which could play 4K videos such as “Smurfs 2” and “Ghostbusters” without a hitch. However, the stumble turned out on Panasonic’s TC-58AX800U, which couldn’t stream Netflix content with 4K resolution.

Netflix passes on its own certification program to TV set makers so that they receive Netflix 4K videos. And the American Internet-media provider’s certification program considers certain factors such as the picture quality, presence of HEVC decoder and fact whether the TV and its HEVC chipset can support a wide range of colors or not.

Manufacturers can put up their TV sets on sale even before receiving a passed Netflix certificate as the software can be updated for 4K video streams. However, in case the certification fails, the televisions cannot play Netflix 4K streams.

The Panasonic’s TC-58AX800U TV set tested here holds an HEVC chipset, which doesn’t meet the Netflix’s certification requirements.

Later this summer, the Japanese TV maker Panasonic plans to launch AX900 series, hopefully with support for Netflix 4K videos.

HTC Desire 516: Good But Far From Perfect

Not yet ready to take down its guard, HTC has recently rolled out HTC Desire 516 phablet in India and Europe. The war in the competitive market of low-cost smartphones seems to be far from over with the entry of BlackBerry Z3 and Asus ZenFone 5. Launched in direct competition to Moto G, the Desire 516 is a 5-inch device boasting sleek design and round edges.

With a removable plastic rear cover and battery, the Desire 516 holds 5MP camera with 540 x 960 pixel resolution and 220 pixel density. The 2MP front camera makes it a great choice for those who love to take selfies. However, the glossy finish of the device makes it uneasy to hold with one hand.

Weighing 160 grams, the phablet is 9.7 mm in thickness. Available in full black and full white variants, it holds lighted back and home touch buttons for easy use at nights. Priced Rs. 13,302, the HTC Desire 516 offers good viewing and clear display quality for pictures and videos though it lacks HD view.

Powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, the device comes paired with Adreno 305 GPU. Holding 1 GB of RAM, the Desire 516 comes with the outdated Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which HTC needs to update.

Using a micro SD card, the 4 GB of internal storage can be expanded to 32 GB. The storage capacity gives an edge to other competitors in the market that hold the same price-tag with internal storage of 8 GB.

The HTC Desire 516 comes packed with a 1950 mAh Li-Ion battery that’s removable. Compatible with dual SIM, 3G and Wi-Fi, the device seems impressive considering its price range but does lag behind other competitors in the market.

To emerge a winner, HTC must revamp its device, working on to offer a powerful battery, an updated OS, faster processor, a HD screen and a higher internal storage- certain points that its Desire 516 lags.… Read the rest
