Apple has always been the first to take a leap when it comes to keep the consumers happy. Now, in order to boost iPhone production in India, the tech giant has decided to gradually do away with its production dependency on China. Apple is currently focusing on ramping up its production of iPhones, iPad, Macs in India and Vietnam.
Apple’s Diversification Strategy
Along with its plans to start producing its first 5G smartphones the iPhone 12 series within March quarter, Apple is making all efforts to reduce dependency on China. According to a Nikkei Asia report, the US tech giant is actively exploring opportunities in countries like Vietnam and India to increase the production of its iPhones, iPads and Macs outside of China. It is planning to slowly move its production base away from China in spite of expected improvement in the US-China relations under US President Joe Biden. The Nikkei report also claims that Apple is in all mood to ramp up the production of its smart speakers, headphones and computers in Southeast Asia as a part of its “ongoing diversification strategy”.

Apple Focusses on Southeast Asia
Apple Taiwanese manufacturer,Wistron also confirmed that the company has already initiated the hiring processes for the local production of iPhone 12 components in India. The iPhones are expected to be produced in Narasapura plant located in Kolar district, about 70 km from Bengaluru. Wistron has proposed to invest over Rs 2,900 crores in India to ramp up the efforts for the local production of iPhone. He also mentioned that This would be the first time when Apple will shape a significant number of the its hot-selling devices outside of China.
The production diversification was started in 2020 and is expected to accelerate in 2021. Apple is reported to have already relocated some of its Mac Mini production to Malaysia and it is expected to move some of its production of the MacBook to Vietnam later this year.The company is also reportedly mobilising its suppliers to expand production of the HomePod mini in the Vietnamese market.
