A smartphone is getting smarter is no big news anymore. But, biometric security on smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and  Apple iPhone 6 – now that is one region where tech giants still lots to do. Andriod has led the bunch with its face-recognition system and Motorola started using finger-print scanning in place of an unlock code on its Atrix 4G handset in 2011. Recent events have indicated that Apple iPhone 6 will also be jumping on the bandwagon with a fingerprint recognising system.

Why would Tech Companies want biometric security?

A whole load of reasons actually, primarily to help the consumer. Firstly, having a phone that can only be unlocked by someone with your face or fingerprint is much safer than having to use a password or a pin, which someone might see, this hold true especially in the case of sensitive documents or files. Secondly, a safer phone will make it much easier for corporate to start making tie-ups with phone companies to purchase phones – corporate espionage has been a major issue in many industries, think about the spygate scandal in F1.
