Just like Instagram Reels, YouTube is now rolling a new short-form video creator called YouTube Shorts. YouTube Shorts in India was announced yesterday with hopes to take the attention away from TikTok.
Likely to function much like TikTok, the new YouTube Shorts feature will allow users to upload 15-second or less short-form videos using a new set of creator tools, including a multi-segment camera. YouTube Shorts in India will also allow Indian users to set music, all thanks to YouTube’s access to a large collection of songs.

The new YouTube Shorts feature by YouTube will first be highlighted within the YouTube app on Android, and will expand to iOS in time.
According to YouTube officials, a primary reason for rolling YouTube feature first in India, is that that its competitor TikTok is already banned here. This would provide a great opportunity to capture the attention of heartbroken TikTok fans in India.
Apart from the YouTube Shorts feature, YouTube is also planning to introduce a new watch experience that will allow users to swipe through YouTube Shorts vertically — quite similar to TikTok.
The company recently also incorporated a new row on the YouTube homepage for watching short videos, and the new watch experience will make it easier to discover and watch new short videos.
