Keeping in mind the growth of e-commerce segment with the importance of local shops becoming key, Flipkart has taken a positive step by expanding its kirana on-boarding program to make super-fast deliveries to customers in more than 850 cities. To benefit from the digital upskilling, over 50,000 kirana stores from all across the country have joined hands with Flipkart to augment their income during the upcoming festive season and the Big Billion Days.

“Through a combination of their hyper local presence and in notions by Flipkart, this programme has become a great enabler in strengthening the kirana ecosystem in the country,” said Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice-President, Ekart and Marketplace, Flipkart.

To assist smooth on boarding of kirana stores, Flipkart initiated contactless on-boarding through online application forms. Kirana partners were asked to directly upload details online along with required documentation. Flipkart said, “This enabled seamless onboarding without them having to step out during COVID19 times. Following a detailed verification check, the kirana partners were brought into the program before they can deliver shipments. The team has also organised digital training on various tools including app-based dashboards and digital payments, helping kiranas transform their business from traditional general trade stores to modern convenience stores.”

The Kirana Programme

With this move, the e-commerce giant aims to offer a more personalised provide a personalised e-commerce experience to millions of consumers. This step will further provide a great opportunity for kirana stores, which were severely hit due to COVID-19 pandemic, to earn revenue especially during the on-going sale as well as during the upcoming festive season.
