It is not even a month since the game “2048” has been launched on both Android and iPhone devices. However, it has already created a huge stir. While it is one of the most popular games that almost everybody is hooked on to, it is claimed to be a “rip-off” by Taylor Casti, a popular blogger, who also called it “shameless”. He claimed it to be a clone of another game namely “Threes”. For him, “Threes!” is a much better game with an attractive design and a cool soundtrack.
The developers of “Threes!” said something similar to Casti. While they were ready to take the issue in a casual way but they stopped being modest since the moment some people called “Threes!” a clone of 2048. Some other even claimed the latter to be better than “Threes!” After the alleged copycat drama the makers went on to say “We know Threes is a better game, we spent over a year on it. And obviously, Threes is the reason 2048 exists.” They further went on record to describe “2048” a “broken game”.
The controversy does not end here. “2048” has also been compared to “Flappy Birds” However, as per the creator of “2048”, Gabriel Cirulli, his inspiration for the game came from “1024”.
Regarding the controversies surrounding the game, Gabriel rsaind, “I just wanted to make my own version with animations and slightly different gameplay, mostly as an exercise,” reported Los Angeles Times.
One cannot deny the fact that in today’s world it is difficult to find something original. However, taking inspiration to the point of copying or cloning most part of it is not acceptable either. Hence the flak faced by “2048”.
